“You selfish bitch!”
I screamed into the floor. “How could you do that?”
“What are you talking
about?” Kai demanded, still rubbing her neck.
“Those girls, all of them, are dead! Did you even try to
help them?”
Ash released me, standing. Kai was speechless, looking as
though the thought hadn’t even occurred to her.
“Their lives were not my concern.” she protested.
“Bullshit!” I jammed my finger in her face, “They were the
same as you! Innocent young women! They were more than just slaves! Their only crime was the
‘inhuman’ blood running through their veins!”
“I did what I had to!”
“With no mind to save others! They were all chained up as
they went down. You couldn’t even give them the keys before you blew the damn
ship skyward?!” I lunged again, but Julian came through the back door.
“What’s going on in here?” he demanded, locking his arms
around my waist to hold me back.
Ash didn’t even move. Instead she just stood staring at Kai
with a venomous glare.
Honestly it was a sad struggle. Julian and I were not
trained. We scrapped and twisted until Gerald burst in to find us all. Kai and
Ash still watched in silence while I pulled and clawed.
“What the hell?” Gerald yanked us apart, looking me over
protectively.
“Kai blew up that
boat.” I shouted.
“And?”
“And she didn’t
even think to help the others.” Ash spat darkly. I looked over, calming. The
vicious side of her was just below the surface.
“What do you care? How many men have you killed? You’re a
Siren like the rest of us! No doubt you’ve been exposed to the same life!” Kai
hissed.
“I never condemned the innocent!” Ash growled.
“Why, because you couldn’t fuck them first?”
Ash flew at her. Suddenly the two most experienced fighters
in Rhine were locked in battle, and all hell broke loose.
